2023 Year in Review
We have so much to be proud of in 2023, including our students, faculty, staff, alumni, preceptors and donors. We invite you to reflect on this past year at Frontier Nursing University.
2023 Highlight: FNU Graduates Celebrate with Friends & Family at Commencement
FNU’s commencement ceremony honored the nurse-midwives and nurse practitioners who have completed the Doctor of Nursing Practice degree, Master in Science of Nursing degree, or Post-Graduate Certificate. FNU awarded over 1,000 degrees again this year.
Frontier Nursing University offers four specialty tracks for nurses
In the field of healthcare, everyone has their own unique passions and interests. That’s why at Frontier Nursing University we offer four specialty tracks with paths for a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) or Post-Graduate Certificate (PGC), depending on the student’s educational background and career goals. A Post-Master’s Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) is also offered as a degree option for those who have completed the MSN. Our specialty tracks are Nurse-Midwife, Family Nurse Practitioner, Women’s Health Care Nurse Practitioner and Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. All of our specialties share an emphasis on rural and underserved communities.
Three reasons to pursue a DNP
If you hold a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN), you may be curious about the growing trend of nurses opting for a DNP degree and whether pursuing one would be the right decision for you. In recent years, more and more nurses are choosing to advance their careers by earning a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP). Frontier Nursing University’s clinical doctorate is designed for registered nurses who want to take their nursing career, leadership skills and clinical expertise to the next level, with an emphasis on rural and underserved communities.
Grant Funds Help Send FNU Students to National Conference
In October, the American Psychiatric Nurses Association (APNA) held its annual conference in Long Beach, California. Among the attendees at the three-day conference were 20 Frontier Nursing University (FNU) psychiatric-mental health nurse practitioner (PMHNP) students and three FNU faculty members. The unique opportunity for FNU students to attend the conference was made possible by funding from the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) Behavioral Health Workforce Education and Training (BHWET) grant.
Dr. Rachel Risner Is Devoted to Helping Others
The National League for Nursing (NLN) recently announced that Frontier Nursing University (FNU) Associate Dean of Academic Affairs, Dr. Rachel Risner, Ph.D., DNP, APRN, C-FNP, CNE, has been selected to participate in the NLN’s Leadership Academy. The Leadership Academy, which is a year-long program, “focuses on leadership development for nurse educators and other interprofessional colleagues to develop leadership competencies, integrate social determinants of health and social change into curricula and programs, and engage in research and scholarly activities related to social determinants of health and social change.” That is a lot to pack into one year, particularly while her plate remains full at FNU, but Dr. Risner has never been one to shy away from hard work, particularly when that work is in service to others.
Three FNU Students Earned Honor Society Scholarships in Spring Term
Each term, Frontier Nursing University’s (FNU) Chi Pi Chapter of the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing (STTI) awards several students with financial scholarships. To qualify for STTI membership, students must have completed at least a quarter of their degree program, hold a 3.5 or higher grade point average and demonstrate academic excellence. For the 2022 Spring Term, three nurse practitioner students received the scholarship, including Jeanne Chutuape, Mara Glantz, and Elizabeth Carr. Congratulations to FNU’s Spring 2022 Chi Pi scholarship recipients! The FNU community is proud of your dedication to hard work.
