VA Education and Training Benefits
Frontier Nursing University is proud to support Military and Veteran Students and their families. We currently accept the following educational benefits:
Chapter 33
Post 9/11 GI Bill®
If you served on active duty after September 10, 2001, you may qualify for the Post 9/11 GI Bill®.
Chapter 33 benefits pay tuition and fees directly to the school. Eligible students may qualify for a monthly housing allowance and books/supplies stipend.
Chapter 35
Survivors’ and Dependents’ Educational Assistance (DEA)
If you’re the child or spouse of a Veteran or service member who has died, is captured or missing, or is permanently and totally disabled due to a service-connected disability, you may be eligible for the Survivors’ and Dependents’ Educational Assistance (DEA) program.
Chapter 35 benefits send a monthly stipend directly to the student, based on full or part-time enrollment.
Chapter 31
Veteran Readiness & Employment (VR&E)
If you’re a service member or Veteran and have a disability that was caused—or made worse—by your active-duty service and that limits your ability to work or prevents you from working, you may be able to get employment support or services to help you live as independently as possible.
Chapter 31 (formerly Voc Rehab) benefits pay tuition & fees directly to the school. Students may also receive a subsistence allowance.
Chapter 30
Montgomery GI Bill® Active Duty
If you’ve served at least 2 years on active duty, you may qualify for the MGIB-AD program.
Chapter 30 funds pay directly to the student based on length of service, type of education program, and other factors.
Chapter 1606
Montgomery GI Bill® Selected Reserve
If you’re a member of the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps or Coast Guard Reserve, Army National Guard, or Air National Guard, you may qualify for this benefit.

How do I apply for VA education and training benefits?
Complete an online application at va.gov to get started.
How do I use my benefits at FNU?
If the VA approves your application, you will receive a Certificate of Eligibility. Please email that document to our School Certifying Official, Michelle Beck, at vabenefits@frontier.edu. From there, you will be directed on next steps based on your benefits chapter, program of study, etc.
What are the current benefit rates for full-time and half-time students?
You can find the current rates for each benefit chapter at va.gov. At FNU, full-time is considered 5 or more credit hours per term; half-time is considered 4 credit hours or less.
What fees are covered by my benefits?
FNU fees that can be covered by VA funds are: Matriculation Fee, Clinical Bound Facility & Lab Fee, Student Resource Fee, Technology Fee, and Graduation Fee. Students can find a full list of fees in the FNU Catalog.
Can I use other forms of Financial Aid in addition to my benefits?
Absolutely. Please contact FNU’s Financial Aid Department for more information.
Are there scholarships available for Veteran/Military students?
Frontier encourages students to actively seek scholarship opportunities. To assist, we have compiled a list of resources, categorized by student population. You can find a list of external scholarships specifically for Military/Veteran students here.
Is Frontier Nursing University a Yellow Ribbon Institution?
No, but for good reason! FNU’s tuition and fees do not meet or exceed the annual VA eligibility disbursement.

Frontier Nursing University’s (FNU) Student Veterans Group is part of the Student Veterans of America (SVA) national network. With a focused mission on empowering student veterans, SVA is committed to providing an educational experience that goes beyond the classroom. Through a dedicated network of more than 1,500 on-campus chapters in all 50 states and four countries representing more than 750,000 student veterans, SVA aims to inspire yesterday’s warriors by connecting student veterans with a community of like-minded chapter leaders. Every day these passionate leaders work to provide the necessary resources, network support, and advocacy to ensure student veterans can effectively connect, expand their skills, and ultimately achieve their greatest potential.


CE Course for Veterans
Frontier Nursing University has created a continuing education course to prepare healthcare professionals to provide culturally sensitive care to veterans within their community. Developed by military-connected faculty at FNU, the “Care of the Veteran” program is a self-paced module that will guide clinicians through understanding military culture, service-connected health concerns, and developing a plan of care utilizing military service benefits.
