Katie Moriarty, PhD, CNM, CAFCI, FACNM

Dr. Katie Moriarty is course faculty in the Nurse-Midwifery program at Frontier. Born and raised in Windsor, Ontario, Canada, she earned her BScN at the University of Windsor, and MS degrees in Perinatal Nursing and Nurse-Midwifery at the University of Illinois Chicago. She also holds a PhD from the University of Illinois Chicago.

Her area of expertise is integrative healthcare and complementary therapies in pregnancy and women’s reproductive healthcare along with stress reduction/resiliency. Her doctoral work specifically focused on acupressure and acupuncture. She is the first midwife to be certified in acupuncture from the Acupuncture Foundation of Canada Institute.

Dr. Moriarty was a faculty scholar in Integrative Healthcare while a Clinical Assistant Professor and the Co-Director of the Nurse-Midwifery Education Program at the University of Michigan. She completed postdoctoral training at the National Center for Integrative Primary Healthcare through the University of Arizona/ Arizona Center for Integrative Medicine and a Health Leader Fellowship at the Ecology Center in Detroit, Michigan.

As a Certified Nurse-Midwife, Dr. Moriarty has worked both as a clinician in all birth settings, along with holding leadership and administrative roles. She writes the Modern Midwives Blog for the PBS show, “Call the Midwife”.
