Dr. Jeffrey Dobbins, DNP, APRN, PMHNP, is a Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner with over 15 years of experience in forensic, inpatient, and rural mental health care. He joined Frontier Nursing University as a full-time faculty member in 2021 and serves in clinical and academic leadership roles focused on advancing excellence in psychiatric nursing education and practice.

Dr. Dobbins earned his Doctor of Nursing Practice from Frontier Nursing University and holds advanced nursing and psychology degrees from Midwestern State University, the University of Oklahoma, Western Oklahoma State College, and the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma. Since 2014, he has practiced forensic psychiatry at North Texas State Hospital’s Maximum Security Unit, where he became the first Advanced Practice Registered Nurse appointed as Assistant Medical Director.

His leadership work centers on advancing the role of Advanced Practice Registered Nurses, reducing unnecessary practice barriers, and strengthening systems of care for individuals with serious mental illness. Dr. Dobbins’ academic interests include forensic psychiatry, trauma-informed care, competency restoration, and preparing nurse practitioners to lead in complex, high-acuity, and underserved settings.
