Christopher McHenry, BS, RN

Chris began his first journey at Frontier in 2013. He took the assessment class for students with a bachelor’s degree other than in nursing prior to moving into applying to the full program. His role as a faculty member at a technical college changed to a program director and then to a director role so the time that he could dedicate to his education became more limited. He transitioned to an education master’s degree before eventually returning to Frontier in the Winter Term session of 2024 in FNP Class 210.

Chris brings a wide variety of experience to his profession and education. In 1998 he received his paramedic degree and then worked as a Career Firefighter/Paramedic for 15 years, responsible for day-to-day operations of his shift in the fire department. In 2008 he obtained an ADN at a local technical college and worked in the ED as an RN part timer. A career change in 2012 brought him into education as a paramedic instructor and eventually served as the Director of EMS for two years at a local technical college. In this role, he was responsible for 120 full and part time faculty as well as over 2500 students a year taking credits or training for Fire, EMS, American Heart Association and continuing education in these areas. During his time in education, he continued to work in Emergency Medicine as a Registered Nurse in a local emergency department. In 2018, he provided nursing care with the Wisconsin Department of Corrections, continuing his experience as a Registered Nurse. In 2019, he transitioned to working in Information Technology as a manager of and application team at a Catholic Healthcare organization before joining the current organization he worked for in 2021 in the Epic Acute Nursing space and moving to the Pharmacy Application space overseeing 18 pharmacists working with Epic software, BD Logistics and Pyxis in both the inpatient and outpatient settings.

Chris received his associate degree as a paramedic from the Chippewa Valley Technical College in 1998 and followed that with an ADN nursing degree from CVTC in 2008. He brings over 30 years of EMS experience in both the pre hospital and hospital settings. In 2013, he earned a BS in Career and Technical Education from UW Stout and in 2017, began working toward a Masters in Career and Technical education. In his free time, he continues his passion of education with teaching at a local alpine ski resort as well as belonging to a couple of non-profit boards focused on providing services to the disabled and underserved communities in his region.

Chris has been married for 22 years and has a 31-year-old stepson, a 16-year-old son, a 15-year-old daughter who uses a wheelchair for mobility and an 11-year-old daughter. The importance of providing care and opportunities to all populations in our communities is very important to him. Frontier’s mission of meeting those needs from its founding is part of what brought him here. He has thoroughly enjoyed his time at Frontier and appreciates his interactions with the leadership, faculty, and staff.
